About this site
Solo Card Games is the work of one person, Sergio, who is its editor. There is no company behind it, no team, and no investors: one person chooses the games, checks the rules, and answers the mail.
Why it exists
Many people who play the classic card games have known them for decades. Those games deserve a table that is free, quick to sit down at, easy to read, and honest about how it deals. That is the whole aim here: open the page, and within seconds you are playing a real game of Hearts, Cribbage, or Euchre against computer players who play sensibly, with large cards and nothing in the way.
The second aim is to make the table a pleasure to look at. In the 1890s people dressed up as playing cards and acted out games of whist on a cloth laid on the floor; the Company brings that idea to the screen. If it is not to your taste, the Classic deck is one tap away, and the site remembers your choice.
The standards this site keeps
- The rules are the rules people actually play. Each game page sets out the rules as they work at this table, checked against named sources such as Pagat, Bicycle, and (for Cribbage) the American Cribbage Congress. Where house rules differ, the common ones are offered as options before the deal, with the usual American choice as the default.
- The numbers on a page match the game. Scores, targets and defaults in the text are the ones the table uses, so the page and the game agree.
- The deal is fair and can be checked. Every deal has a number you can replay, and the computer players see only their own cards. Fair play explains exactly how.
- Your games stay with you. There is no sign-up, no account, and no tracking. Your settings, saved games, and statistics live in your own browser, and you can back them up yourself.
- Mistakes get fixed. If a rule is stated wrong or a deal looks off, write in, and the correction is made and noted on What's new.
How it is paid for
Plainly: the plan is for this site to pay for itself with advertising. Today there are no ads on it at all, and no advertising code of any kind. When advertising is added, it will sit beside or below the table, away from the cards and the controls, and it will not interrupt a hand. Before that happens, the Privacy and Cookies pages will be updated to say exactly what changes, and the change will be listed on What's new.
The games themselves will stay free, with no sign-up, no paid tier, and nothing to unlock.
Getting in touch
Questions, corrections, and reports of a deal that went wrong are all welcome at hello@solocardgames.com. The Contact page explains how to attach the details of a deal so it can be replayed exactly as you saw it. Sergio reads the mail himself.
