Solo Card Games

Cookies and browser storage

As of , this site sets no cookies: none of its own, none from a third party, none technical, none analytical, and none for advertising. That is why you see no consent banner. The cookie table on this page is empty because there is nothing to list. The site does keep your settings, games in progress, and statistics in your browser's local storage, on your own device; section 3 lists exactly what.

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device when you visit it and can read again on later visits. It has legitimate uses, such as remembering a preference or keeping you signed in, and it can also be used to follow you from page to page and from site to site.

The name of the file matters little. This page uses the word "cookie" in the broad sense, covering cookies proper as well as local storage and session storage in the browser, web beacons, tracking pixels, device identifiers, and browser fingerprinting techniques. Anything that stores information on your device or reads information from it belongs here.

2. What cookies this site uses today: none

This site:

You can check it in a minute: open your browser's developer tools, usually with the F12 key, and look at the cookies in the storage or application tab. The list for solocardgames.com should be empty. If it is not, that is a bug and I want to know about it: write to hello@solocardgames.com.

Cookies set by solocardgames.com, by purpose, owner, and duration
Purpose Name Owner Duration Description
This table is empty on purpose: as of the site sets no cookies. It is published so that, if the site ever sets one, the cookie appears here with its purpose, its owner, its duration, and its description.

3. What the games keep in your browser

You would expect a card game to remember how you like the table and where you left off, and this one does. It uses your browser's local storage for that, and for nothing else. Local storage is not a cookie: it is never sent to the site with a request, and it is read only by the page on your own device.

Every key the site writes starts with scg:. These are all of them:

Keys the site keeps in your browser's local storage
Key What it holds
scg:settings Your table settings: which deck you chose (the Company or the Classic deck), two or four suit colors, card size, animation speed, whether a card takes one tap or two, how your hand is sorted, which screen the Intermission shows, whether it fills the screen and which key calls it, whether sound is on, its volume, and whether the Herald's calls and the turn reminder play, and for each game the rule options and computer player levels you picked.
scg:hearts:save, scg:spades:save, scg:euchre:save, scg:cribbage:save, scg:gin-rummy:save, scg:spite-and-malice:save, scg:golf:save, scg:kings-in-the-corner:save One key per game, present only while a game is in progress: the position of the cards, the deal number, the rule options, and the levels, so you can resume. It is deleted when the game ends or when you abandon it.
scg:hearts:stats, scg:spades:stats, scg:euchre:stats, scg:cribbage:stats, scg:gin-rummy:stats, scg:spite-and-malice:stats, scg:golf:stats, scg:kings-in-the-corner:stats One key per game: games played and won, in total and by computer player level, your best score, your current and longest winning streaks, and the result of each Today's deal you played over the last 60 days.

That is all. No name, no email address, no identifier for you or for your device, and no record of what you read. The computer players never read your statistics, so how you have played does not change how they play. A short test key, scg:probe, is written and removed at once, only to find out whether your browser lets the site store anything. If it does not, the site still works, and your settings and game last only until you close the tab.

None of this is transmitted. The operator never receives it and cannot recover it.

3.1. How to clear it

4. Why there is no banner

Because there is nothing to consent to. No cookie is set, and the local storage described above is used only to give you the table you asked for, on your own device. A banner that appeared while no cookie was being set would protect nobody: it would only make you click. The site also has no analytics of any kind.

4.1. If advertising is activated

The site intends to carry Google AdSense advertising in the future. None of what follows is active today; it describes how the cookie side would be handled, and the rest is in section A.4 of the privacy policy.

Google would act as an independent controller of what its own tags collect. Described generically, the cookies and identifiers an advertising network uses are these:

The exact list would be published on this page before the first ad is shown, with the real name of each cookie, its owner, its duration, and its purpose, in the table above.

A choice screen would appear before any advertising tag loads, and it would work like this:

Before the first ad is shown, this page and the privacy policy are updated with each actual cookie, the identification of the consent mechanism, the list of advertising providers with a link to their own policies, and the date of the change.

5. How to control cookies and site data in your browser

Whatever this site does, you can control cookies and site data from your browser: block them all, block only third-party ones, clear them when you close the window, or delete the ones already stored. Blocking every cookie can stop other sites from working properly, since many of them do need cookies; this one is not affected either way. Blocking local storage does not stop the games from working; it only means your settings and statistics are not kept.

Depending on the browser, the settings are in these places:

Google Chrome
Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies, and "Delete browsing data".
Mozilla Firefox
Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Enhanced Tracking Protection, and "Cookies and Site Data".
Safari (Mac)
Safari, then Settings, then Privacy, and "Manage Website Data".
Safari (iPhone and iPad)
Settings, then Apps, then Safari, then Advanced, then Website Data.
Edge
Settings, then Cookies and site permissions.
Chrome on Android
Menu, then Settings, then Site settings, then Third-party cookies.

Every browser also has a private or incognito window that clears a site's cookies and storage when you close it. The exact names of these menus change from one version to the next; if you cannot find the option, search for "cookies" or "site data" in your browser's settings.

6. More information and contact

How personal information is handled, including the purposes, the recipients, the handling outside the United States, and your rights, is described in the privacy policy. The identification of the operator is in the terms of use.

If you have a question about this page, or you find that the site is setting a cookie that is not listed here, write to hello@solocardgames.com.

7. Changes to this page

This page is updated whenever the site's use of cookies or browser storage changes, and in every case before the first cookie is set. The date of the last update is at the top of the page.
